I received an advance copy of this book from The Author.

Ruby Evans is a reluctant witch. She also works for a magical detective agency when she would much rather spend time in her yarn shop with her cats! But that all changes when her shelter cats suddenly go missing and she has no choice but to find them! In turn, Ruby gets tangled up in a murder investigation that somehow involves her missing felines...But who took the cats in the first place, and what do they have to do with the murderer? And can Ruby find the cats before the murderer finds her first?

Kitty Chaos is a prequel novella that kicks off the Appleton Mysteries, a new cozy mystery series with paranormal elements.

Ruby Evans has recently opened Yarn Fluff, a yarn shop that she’s dreamed of owning for years. Along with knitting and crochet, Ruby’s other passion is animals—specifically cats. Housed in the same building as the shop is a shelter, where Ruby cares for cats until they find their forever homes.

Ruby is married to Mark, a detective in their small town of Appleton. They’re raising twin daughters and living a happy life. There’s just one more thing: Ruby is a witch and Mark doesn’t know it.

Along with Ruby, her two sisters are also witches. Together, the trio do some magical detective work on occasion, aided by their familiars (Ruby’s is a wyvern named Moss, who appears as a cat to non-magical people). When a local woman winds up dead, Ruby is determined to get to the bottom of her murder.

This is a super cute book and a fast read! It reminded me of Bewitched at times, especially when Ruby hops on a broom and flies across town at one point. I also loved all the knitting references. I’m hoping to see a lot more from Ruby as well as her witchy sisters.
