I received an advance copy of this book from Edelweiss.

Vice President Joe Biden is fresh out of the Obama White House and feeling adrift when his favorite railroad conductor dies in a suspicious accident, leaving behind an ailing wife and a trail of clues. To unravel the mystery, “Amtrak Joe” re-teams with the only man he’s ever fully trusted—the 44th president of the United States. Together they’ll plumb the darkest corners of Delaware, traveling from cheap motels to biker bars and beyond, as they uncover the sinister forces advancing America’s opioid epidemic.

Part noir thriller and part bromance novel, Hope Never Dies is essentially the first published work of Obama/Biden fanfiction—and a cathartic read for anyone distressed by the current state of affairs.

Hope Never Dies is exactly the book I needed to read at this moment in time. Picture a cozy mystery starring Barack Obama and Joe Biden, tooling around Delaware in their own version of the Mystery Machine (aka the Secret Service Little Beast). Can they get to the bottom of a mysterious death, while also rekindling their strained friendship? Yes, they can.

Former Vice President Joe Biden has seen a lot in his day, but even he can’t make sense of the current state of affairs in DC—and the country as a whole. He’s disheartened by the undoing of much of the work that he and President Obama accomplished during their time in office.

More bad news heads Joe’s way when he learns that an old friend, Amtrak conductor Finn Donnelly, has died. But Finn’s death was suspicious, and Joe decides that it’s up to him to find out the truth.

Along the way, Joe gets some help from another old friend—one who happened to serve as the forty-fourth President of the United States. But Joe and Barack’s friendship has cooled since they left the White House, leaving Joe with a sizable chip on his shoulder. As they investigate Finn’s death, the two embark on a madcap adventure that unites them, both as a crime-fighting team and as best friends.

Hope Never Dies: An Obama Biden Mystery is a true bromance that will have you digging out your Yes, We Can campaign shirt. Whimsical and fun, it’s also packed with unexpected heart and the long-suffering Obama/Biden banner: hope.
